Software turns 2-D medical scans into 3-D

U.S. scientists say they have created software that can convert flat medical scans into 3-D images that can be shifted, adjusted, zoomed and replayed at will. The researchers, Iowa State University Professor James Oliver and Associate Professor Eliot Winer, say their software can use data from computerized tomography or magnetic resonance imaging scans to assist physicians in planning ... more

    WHO urges swift treatment for riskiest flu cases

    The World Health Organisation on Thursday called on doctors to use antiviral drugs swiftly on the most vulnerable swine flu patients, to prevent severe cases and avoid swamping hospitals. WHO clinical expert Niki Shindo said the agency would issue new guidelines targeting three key groups in countries where the A(H1N1) virus is spreading, to avoid severe cases that could kill within a week. ... more

    An epidemic of flu and respiratory infections has now taken 135 lives in Ukraine, the health ministry said, as the country Saturday received a new portion of medical aid from Europe.
