Death Rates Not Best Judge Of Hospital Quality
Baltimore MD (SPX) Apr 21, 2010
Inpatient mortality rates, used by organizations to issue "report cards" on the quality of individual U.S. hospitals, are a poor gauge of how well hospitals actually perform and should be abandoned in favor of measures that more accurately assess patient harms and the care being provided, argue patient safety experts in a new paper. Food Vs Fuel: Growing Grain For Food More Energy Efficient
East Lansing MI (SPX) Apr 21, 2010
Using productive farmland to grow crops for food instead of fuel is more energy efficient, Michigan State University scientists concluded, after analyzing 17 years' worth of data to help settle the food versus fuel debate. Xining, China (AFP) April 15, 2010
Rescuers with shovels and bare hands clawed through rubble Thursday to hunt for survivors of a quake in a remote area of China which killed over 600 people and made thousands homeless. A huge relief effort was under way to send vital aid such as tents and medical supplies to the disaster zone, where doctors set up makeshift hospitals and rescuers battled freezing weather and a lack of oxygen.
