WHITE OUT
Boston sets unwanted snow record
by Staff Writers
Washington (AFP) March 16, 2015

Still reeling from storm after ferocious storm in the recent grim months, Boston has broken its record for snow recorded in one winter season, the National Weather Service said Sunday.

The unwanted milestone was greeted with dark humor from Boston Mayor Marty Walsh, who joked on Twitter: "Superbowls, World Series', Stanley Cups, and snowfall records. We are truly a title city. There will be no parade."

As of Sunday, the city's Logan airport had been hit with 108.6 inches (275.8 cm) of seasonal snowfall, the NWS said, breaking the old record of 107.6 for the 1995-1996 winter season.

New England, the northeastern stretch of the US east and north of New York state, was whacked by several nasty storm systems this winter, forcing people to dig tunnels outside their homes and -- in some cases -- relieve cabin fever by jumping off their roof to the massive drifts below.
