Navantia helps repair Venezuelan patrol vessel
Madrid (UPI) Jun 2, 2013 - Spanish shipbuilder Navantia is providing consulting and advisory services to building a new propulsion system for a Venezuelan offshore patrol boat.

The vessel, the PC-22 Warao, ran aground on a reef off the coast of Brazil in 2012, resulting in heavy hull and propulsion system damage.

Navantia built the ship and delivered it to the Venezuelan navy in 2011.

The contract for the services is between Navantia and Brazilian company Ecovix-Engevix. Navantia did not detail the value of the award but said it "represents 40,000 hours of work for Navantia."

In addition to technical consulting services, Navantia will also provide the propulsion, power generation and automated control systems for the ship's hull. Much of the work will be performed in Cartagena, Spain.

Navantia, which has a presence in Brazil and is modernizing a Brazilian navy ship, said repairs to the Venezuelan vessel are being conducted at the Brazilian Navy Arsenal at Rio de Janeiro.

Intrusion detection systems from Israel's NICE Systems have been installed at a major oil transshipment port in Poland.

The systems are NICE Situator and NiceVision and are being used by Naftoport as part of a security program that involves integration of previously installed solutions for enhanced incident management and situational awareness.

"Integrating our disparate security systems within NICE Situator has made our security team more efficient, effective, and agile by automating response processes and administration," said Cezary Jozwiak, head of Security at Naftoport. "It gives them a single operating platform through which they can proactively monitor, manage, and maintain the safety and security of the port, reducing risks and improving incident management."

NICE Situator is an automated central interface. It functions with NiceVision intrusion detection analytics, surveillance cameras, radar, intruder and hold up alarms, passive infrared, ACS, GPS and automatic identification systems at the port.

Naftoport transships crude oil and refined oil products in the Port of Gdansk.

"This implementation reinforces NICE's expertise in protecting major seaports worldwide, which is a critical element in border security," said Chris Wooten, executive vice president, NICE Security Group. "Working with Naftoport we have maximized the potential of its existing infrastructure investments, as well as provided a platform for the addition of new and upgraded systems in the future."
