U.S. military efforts to counter improvised explosive devices are to receive analysis support at home and abroad from CACI International Inc.

The contract for analytic support was issued by the Defense Department's Joint Improvised Explosive Device Defeat Organization, or JIEDDO, and is worth $34 million and runs for a period of three years.

CACI, which has provided various support services to JIEDDO over the years, said the award is new business.

"Assisting our military in protecting the U.S. Armed Forces from ubiquitous threats such as IEDs has always been one of CACI's highest priorities," said CACI President and Chief Executive Officer Ken Asbury. "This contract with the Joint Improvised Explosive Device Defeat Organization, a longtime customer of ours, enables us to continue that critical support while expanding our business in our Integrated Security Solutions market area."

JIEDDO tackles improvised explosive devices – the major cause of U.S. and coalition casualties in the Iraq and Afghan wars – with a three-pronged strategy: Attack the network, defeat the device, and train the force.

Under the award, CACI will deploy personnel to conduct support of operations research and systems analysis of JIEDDO's J9 Operational Analysis and Assessment Division. It will also supply IED analysis and geospatial analysis support to improve the understanding of IEDs as weapons of strategic influence and enable JIEDDO to make analytically derived and informed decisions on minimizing their impact.

"CACI has the proven processes and agile, experienced staff in place to help safeguard global operational forces and ensure mission success for our valued customers in the intelligence community," said John Mengucci, CACI's chief operating officer and president of U.S. operations.
