South Korea boosting Peru aviation industry: president
by Staff Writers
Lima (AFP) April 21, 2015

South Korea is working with Peru to further boost its aviation industry, South Korean president Park Geun-Hye said Tuesday in Lima while presenting a training aircraft co-produced by both countries.

Peru has received the first batch of KT-1P training aircraft from a $208 million agreement for 20 planes.

The KT-1P single-engine propeller plane was built by Korean Aerospace Industries; 16 of the aircraft will be co-assembled by Peru's air force.

Park said the airplane's co-production is a model for industry partnership for the future.

"This co-production model is a symbol of our future-oriented cooperation to enable Peru to make a leap in the aviation industry," Park said at the Las Palmas Air Base accompanied by Peru's President Ollanta Humala.

Humala hailed the aircraft's ability to aid in anti-terrorism and anti-drug trafficking missions.

Park is on a tour of Latin America and will visit Chile and Brazil shortly.
