Arise Solar's new solar for Tresor Family Apartments

Glenn Siemens from Arise Solar has created a new way to install solar on roofs with S-shaped Spanish Tiles which are very common in California and other warm weather states.

Glenn Siemens, President of Arise Solar based in Clovis, California recently announced the completion of a new solar installation for PacWest Builders and their Tresor Family Apartments in Salinas, CA. Arise Solar is installing solar modules for PacWest in other California cities.

The Tresor Family Apartments solar installation includes 270 MAGE Solar modules that will produce 41.59 AC-kW of CEC Rated electricity with an annual output of 72,582 kWh that will provide 83% of the community building electricity needs. The system is expected to save $13,404 in electricity costs for the first year and $335,100 over 25 years in electricity costs from PG and E, the large northern California utility.

The electricity produced from the solar installation at the Tresor Family apartments will be used to help with the electrical needs of the community building and exterior lighting.

Installing solar electricity on the apartments built by the Pacific Companies helps financially struggling families and seniors to more easily live within their limited incomes for expenses - including the monthly cost of their electricity bills.

The Pacific Companies were formed to become part of a solution that would enable financially struggling families and senior citizens to discover a better way of life. The company works with government agencies, non-profit organizations and other developers to bring enviable housing choices to communities across the western United States.

Glenn Siemens from Arise Solar has created a new way to install solar on roofs with S-shaped Spanish Tiles which are very common in California and other warm weather states.

In the past, these were difficult installations for all solar companies because it required either the removal and frequent breaking of tiles or the drilling of tiles to install mounting brackets to hold both hold the system and protect it from movement in high winds. And again, drilling into the clay Spanish Tiles frequently broke them.

This new installation uses Arise Solar's own "SS" offset brackets and ProSolar railing over the S-tile (Spanish tiles") roofing

In Glenn's words: "When I got into the solar business coming out of the construction business, I was flabbergasted by the way solar was being installed over tile roofing. I couldn't believe the amount of flashings and tile cutting that was being done. Using my experience from my last employment which required me to come up with ways to prevent construction errors, I wanted to have a way to make my attachment to the building structure without having to cut roofing tiles there by eliminating the 3" standard overlap of tile. I also wanted to have my bracket up out of the lower section on S-tile roofing where the water flowed to prevent any possibility of created a water dam. Therefore, I designed a bracket made out of stainless steel that wraps around the roofing tile. There is only a small cut made on the bottom side of the roofing tile to make room for the bracket so the tile sits flush as originally installed. If it's installed over S-tile roofing then I use standard 5/8" unistrut as a rail which allows me to position the bracket over the high portion of tile. The installation is so clean that I can relocate the solar system to another home and you'd never know the old roof had any solar on it."
