BAE Systems contracted for USS San Antonio modernization
by Ryan Maass
Washington (UPI) Jan 9, 2017

BAE Systems has received a $75 million contract to perform maintenance and modernization services for the U.S. Navy's USS San Antonio.

The contract covers a combination of maintenance, repair and modernization tasks to support the vessel's docking phased maintenance availability. The company will provide facilities for the work in addition to human resources.

Work will be performed in Norfolk, Va., and is expected to be complete by April 2018.

The agreement includes options which, if exercised, will bring its cumulative value to $79 million. All funding was provided at the time of the contact award. The Naval Sea Systems Command in Washington, D.C., is listed as the contracting activity.

The Navy's USS San Antonio is the lead vessel of the branch's San Antonio-class amphibious transport docks. The ships are designed to transport landing forces and other elements during expeditionary warfare missions.

Payloads for the transport docks can include Marines, Amphibious Assault Vehicles, MV-22 aircraft, and other supporting equipment.
