Belgium has asked the United States for equipment, parts and logistical support for additional upgrading of its F-16 fighter aircraft.

The U.S. Defense Security Cooperation Agency, in its required notification to Congress of the possible sale, said the State Department had approved the request, which is worth $113 million.

The Foreign Military Sale package for Belgium includes LN-260 embedded global positioning/inertial navigation systems; remote operated video enhanced receivers; AN/APX-125 identification-friend-or-foe transceivers; a Joint Mission Planning System and ultra-high frequency transmitters and very high frequency transmitters.

Other items on the list for the aircraft's mid-life upgrade are spare and repair parts, support equipment, repair and return services, and software development and integration.

"The proposed sale will support the Belgian Air Force's (BAF) efforts to equip, upgrade, and utilize its F-16A/B MLU (mid-life upgrade) aircraft," DSCA said.

The principal contractor will be Lockheed Martin Missile and Fire Control in Orlando, Fla.
