Bell-Boeing, a joint-venture between Boeing and Bell Helicopter, received a $138 million contract modification for additional V-22 aircraft work.

The modification is a follow-up to the company's contract with the U.S. Navy initially awarded in July 2014. Under the modification, Bell-Boeing will provide engineering services for MV-22 Osprey aircraft to be sold to the government of Japan.

The agreement covers qualification testing, integration, airworthiness substantiation, and flight demonstrations.

Work on the contract will be performed in Philadelphia, Penn., Tokyo, Japan, and various other locations. The U.S. Department of Defense expects the work to be complete by December 2019.

Bell-Boeing received all foreign military sale funds at the time of the contract modification award. The Naval Air Systems Command is listed as the contracting activity.

The V-22 Osprey is a multirole combat aircraft with both fixed-wing and rotary-wing capabilities. While Japan and the United States are the aircraft's primary operators, India, Israel, South Korea, and the United Arab Emirates are also considering a purchase.
