NASA tapped Big Sky Associates to develop a strategy to allow employees and constituents to securely and seamlessly access and share agency information from anywhere on any device.

Big Sky Associates held a strategy session for NASA's chief information officer and coalition of chief technology officers to create an overarching vision with goals and actionable initiatives.

The session will help NASA create a common mobile-computing experience for users with a focus on appropriately protecting data, while providing global accessibility.

NASA's objective is to allow users to easily connect to any work center to share data with people inside and outside of NASA. The agency is also seeking to increase productivity and provide a central location to download enterprise mobile applications that support its missions.

"NASA's employees are adopting devices faster than NASA can study them," said Big Sky Associates Co-founder and Managing Partner John Dillard.

"These devices become integral to productivity, and employees want to bring them into the workplace and onto the network so they can access information anywhere at any time. Employees are also developing innovative applications to further NASA's missions, but agency-wide guidelines are needed."

NASA plans to provide secure access to its mobile workforce by September 2013. The agency also seeks to ensure the solutions work for past, present and future technologies, and that all services will work on any mobile device by December 2013.
