China-Latin America and Caribbean States Space Cooperation Forum underway

The inaugural China-Latin American and Caribbean States Space Cooperation Forum began in Wuhan, Hubei province, China, on Wednesday.

Chinese Vice-Premier Zhang Guoqing presented a congratulatory letter from President Xi Jinping at the forum's opening ceremony, highlighting the ongoing developments and the significance of space cooperation between China and the Latin American and Caribbean nations.

In the letter, Xi Jinping conveyed his high hopes for the advancement of a comprehensive space cooperation partnership, setting forth objectives for deepening this collaborative effort, as reported by Vice-Premier Zhang.

Zhang stated China's commitment to enhancing collaboration with Latin American and Caribbean countries in space development strategies, fostering innovation in science and technology, expanding application opportunities, and boosting industry synergies and talent exchanges. These efforts aim to elevate bilateral space cooperation, yielding concrete benefits for the populations involved, and fostering a cooperative international community with shared goals.

Luther Castillo Harry, the Honduran Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation, shared a congratulatory message from the President of Honduras, Iris Xiomara Castro Sarmiento. Similarly, Venezuelan Science and Technology Minister Gabriela Jimenez conveyed a message from Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro.

The forum was attended by representatives from space agencies, universities, research institutions, and enterprises from both China and the Latin American and Caribbean countries, alongside international organization delegates.
