China is gearing up to promote the extensive use of the BeiDou Navigation Satellite System by designating several pilot cities to highlight BeiDou's applications in mass consumption, manufacturing, and emerging sectors such as the Industrial Internet and Artificial Intelligence (AI), according to an announcement by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT).

"The large-scale application of BeiDou has now entered a critical stage of marketization, industrialization, and internationalization," the announcement states.

To boost the integration of BeiDou across various industries, China will support the development of leading enterprises, enhance product quality, promote BeiDou applications, and build a strong industrial ecosystem, the announcement adds.

The pilot projects will concentrate on three main areas: mass consumption, manufacturing, and integrated innovation.

In the realm of mass consumption, pilot cities will focus on smartphones, wearable devices, tablets, shared travel tools, and low-altitude unmanned aerial vehicles. Enterprises will be encouraged to develop and manufacture BeiDou-enabled products, thereby continuously enhancing the supply capacity of these products.

In industrial manufacturing, pilot cities will expedite the adoption of BeiDou in key sectors such as automobiles, ships, aircraft, and robots, the announcement continues.

Local governments are urged to support the creation of platforms related to the Internet of Vehicles and the Intelligent Network, aiming to increase the proportion of commercial and passenger vehicles equipped with BeiDou systems.

For integrated innovation, new "BeiDou Plus" applications will be explored. The innovative uses of the BeiDou system in emerging industries like the Internet of Vehicles, the Internet of Things, the Industrial Internet, and AI will be promoted.

This initiative aims to deeply integrate BeiDou applications with new scenarios such as smart cities, intelligent transportation, smart logistics, smart maritime, and precision agriculture, the announcement concludes.
