China's People's Liberation Army Navy released a video showing their updated aircraft carrier operations onboard the Liaoning, the nation's only carrier.

The demonstration came with the visit of the head of the Chinese Navy. People's Liberation Army Navy commander Wu Whengli assessed the performance of pilots and other participants after witnessing the demonstration, saying his force has made considerable progress in building its aircraft carrier fighting capacity, according to China's military newspaper, the People's Daily.

During the demonstration, J-15 fighters executed landing and launching operations, reportedly captured on video in the Bohai Sea.

Photos released earlier this year indicate China is in the process of building another aircraft carrier, with the goal of fronting four aircraft carriers, according to USNI News.

The Liaoning aircraft carrier was initially a Soviet vessel China purchased from Ukraine in 1998, commissioned in 2012. The ship carries Shenyang J-15 fighters and additional aircraft. According to Chinese military officials, the ship's primary role is to serve as a training platform for the country's naval forces.
