China's rapid military build-up a 'serious concern': Japan govt spokesman

Beijing's rapid military build-up and lack of transparency around the matter is a "serious concern", Japan's top government spokesman Yoshimasa Hayashi said Wednesday after China test-launched an intercontinental ballistic missile.

"China has been continuing to increase its defence budget at high levels, and widely and rapidly strengthening its nuclear and missile capability including ICBM," as well as expanding its military activity around Japan, Hayashi told reporters. "This Chinese military trend, with lack of its transparency, is a serious concern for Japan and the international community."
