Croatia joins EU oil embargo against Iran
by Staff Writers
Zagreb (AFP) March 22, 2012

Future European Union member state Croatia announced Thursday that it had joined the bloc's embargo of Iranian oil.

Josko Klisovic, the country's assistant foreign affairs minister, said the decision stipulates a ban on imports of Iranian crude into Croatia, as well as all petroleum and petrochemical products.

The ban also covers exports of equipment for the oil industry to Iran.

The EU in January voted to gradually phase in an an oil embargo against Iran over fears the country is developing nuclear weapons.

Croatia is expected to join the EU in July 2013 as the bloc's 28th member.
