Dalila grows into hurricane off Mexico coast
by Staff Writers
Mexico City (AFP) July 02, 2013

Tropical storm Dalila grew into a hurricane as it swirled away from Mexico's Pacific coast on Tuesday, and authorities urged coastal residents to prepare for possible landslides and heavy rains.

The storm, packing maximum sustained winds of 120 kilometers (75 miles) per hour, was located some 305 kilometers west of the port of Manzanillo in Colima state, the National Weather Service of Mexico said in a statement.

Dalila was expected to weaken over the next 24 hours as it moved west-northwest, but the agency urged residents and sailors to take "extreme precautions over the probability of heavy rains, landslides and strong winds."
