Death toll in US landslide rises to 41
by Staff Writers
Los Angeles (AFP) April 22, 2014

The death toll from a devastating landslide in the western US state of Washington has risen to 41 with the discovery of two more bodies Monday, officials said.

Two more people remain listed as missing in the debris left by the mammoth disaster that swept through the small town of Oso on March 22, the Snohomish County Sheriff's Office said in a statement.

The rural town was hit by a rush of mud, rocks and trees, which also destroyed part of a highway about 60 miles (95 kilometers) northeast of Seattle.

President Barack Obama was scheduled to visit Oso Tuesday to meet with families and rescue officials, as he stops off on his way to a tour of Asian countries.
