The Guard-2012 international exercise to counter nuclear terrorist threats has drawn to a close in Moscow. The manoeuvres were held as part of the Global Initiative to Combat Nuclear Terrorism, which Russian and US Presidents proclaimed in St. Petersburg on July 15. During the exercise, Russia showed state-of-the-art instruments to detect radioactive substances, as well as ways that Russian special-purpose units act to neutralize mock terrorists who got hold of radioactive materials. Taking part were delegations from 58 countries, and also the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime, Interpol and the IAEA. Source: Voice of Russia
