India Monday successfully testfired its home-made, nuclear-capable Agni IV ballistic missile off the coast of the eastern state of Odisha, sources said. "The missile was launched from the integrated test range at Wheeler Island. The testfiring was part of a user trial by the Indian Army," the sources said.

The surface-to-surface Agni IV missile has a strike range of 4,000 km and is a two-stage weapon system that is 20 meters long and weighs 17 tonnes.

Agni I, II and III are already in use and this was the fifth trial of Agni IV missile. The last trial of the missile in December 2014 was also successful.
