Insitu will provide a ScanEagle drone on one U.S. Coast Guard national security cutter under a contract announced by the company Monday.

The contract includes three one-year options, the Boeing subsidiary said in a statement.

The Coast Guard procured the services via a pre-existing multiple award contract executed by Naval Air Systems Command.

The initial $4.5 million task order includes operation, integration, maintenance and sparing of a contractor-owned drone on one ship for a year.

The task order has a total potential value of $12.3 million if the three yearly options are exercised.

The Coast Guard will have full ownership of the surveillance data obtained, Insitu said.

The service has undertaken years of operational demonstrations involving drones like ScanEagle, with the most recent involving a search and rescue exercise over the Northwest Passage in 2015.
