Jordan and Russia signed a deal that is worth 10 billion U.S. dollars Tuesday to support the implementation of Jordan's first nuclear plant, the state-run Petra news agency reported.

Khaled Toukan, chairman of the Jordan Atomic Energy Commission, said the deal is crucial to the implementation of the project.

Khaled said under the deal, Russia will provide nuclear fuel for the nuclear power plant, adding that Jordan has the right to send nuclear fuel waste back to Russia.

In October 2013, Jordan approved Russia' s Atomstroyexport, leading nuclear power service exporter, as technology provider for Jordan's first nuclear plant.

Jordan aimed to increase energy sufficiency and reduce imports by building the nuclear reactor, which will have two 1,000-megawatt power plants.
