Kenneth dwindles to category one hurricane
by Staff Writers
Miami (AFP) Nov 23, 2011

Hurricane Kenneth dwindled Wednesday from to a category one storm, as it spun away from Mexico's coastline and off into the Pacific Ocean.

The US National Hurricane Center (NHC) in Miami said Kenneth, the 10th hurricane of the current season, was packing maximum sustained winds of about 90 miles (150 kilometers) per hour, and is expected to continue to weaken over the next day or so.

At 1500 GMT the storm was situated about 860 miles (1,385 kilometers) southwest of the southern tip of Baja California, Mexico, and was moving westward at about nine miles (15 kilometers) per hour.

Kenneth -- which at its peak had reached category four status -- was expected to be downgraded to a tropical storm on Thursday and is unlikely to pose a threat to land, US forecasters said.
