An unidentified country in Latin America has ordered systems from Israel's Elbit Systems Ltd. for homeland security applications.

Elbit said the award is in the amount of $133 million but would not describe or name the systems, saying instead that they are "based on highly advanced and unique technologies, including command, control and "intelligence capabilities."

The capabilities will be operated through dedicated control centers and are intended to play a major role in fighting crime, preventing violence and improving citizens' safety and security.

"We are proud of this additional contract award, demonstrating our unique ability to offer our customers a broad and comprehensive solution based on capabilities that cross our company," Bezhalel (Butzi) Machlis, president and chief executive officer of Elbit Systems, said. "This award is another significant milestone for Elbit Systems in the HLS field, in which we are witnessing a growing demand worldwide.

"Our technological edge and vast operational experience in command-and-control missions for defense applications position us as market leaders for HLS projects."

Elbit said work on the contract will be performed over a 12-month period.
