An unidentified Middle East country has ordered additional border security radars from Airbus Defense and Space, the company reports.

Under the award -- an extension to an existing contract for more than 40 Spexer 2000 radars now operating in the country -- Airbus Defense and Space will deliver four systems but no delivery schedule was detailed.

Spexer 2000 is optimized for the surveillance of borders and areas over long distances. It features high Doppler and velocity resolution and high clutter suppression to detect, track and classify small targets, such as people, and fast moving objects such as speed boats and low-flying aircraft.

Airbus Defense and Space said the radar is qualified according to several military standards.

"Spexer 2000 is using state-of-the-art Active Electronically Scanning Array technology, which provides a multi-tasking and multi-mode capability, and increases the detection and target assessment capability substantially," said Thomas Muller, head of the company's Electronics business. "Due to this, Spexer 2000 can replace several conventional radars."
