A critical power generation subsystem of Raytheon's Next Generation Jammer has demonstrated its technical maturity through successful completion of a series of sea and altitude level wind tunnel tests.

With the power system housed in a full-scale model of its NGJ pod, Raytheon demonstrated full power generation, transient load switching and effective thermal control of the unit.

The testing was completed in operationally relevant environmental conditions at Arnold Air Force Base, Tullahoma, Tenn.

"Effective radiated power is one of the Next Generation Jammer's key requirements," said Mark Kula, vice president of Tactical Airborne Systems for Raytheon's Space and Airborne Systems business.

"These test results confirm the Raytheon NGJ system achieved better than required power production to enable full effective radiated power within drag performance expectations."

Raytheon's Next Generation Jammer combines agile, high-powered beam jamming techniques and sophisticated solid-state electronics.

Raytheon is currently in the technology maturation stage of the competition for the U.S. Navy's NGJ program, with plans to continue maturation testing in 2012.
