Norway buys French bombs for Ukraine: ministry

by AFP Staff Writers
Oslo (AFP) Feb 12, 2026

Norway on Thursday announced it was buying a "large volume" of French glide bombs as part of a bilateral agreement to support Ukraine militarily against Russia's invasion.

"The agreement provides an opportunity for Norway and France to cooperate on donating unique and desired defence materiel, through acquisitions from French industry or donations from French stocks," Norway's defence ministry said.

"As a first step, Norway contributes with about 4.2 billion kroner ($440 million) and France guarantees for a loan of about 3 billion kroner," a statement read.

The deal includes the purchase of a "large volume of air-to-ground weapons and capabilities", providing surveillance and analytical capability, the ministry said.

The exact type of weapons was not disclosed.

But their description matches the AASM Hammer glide bomb with additional propulsion guided and manufactured by France's Safran and already widely used by Ukraine.
