The Japan Air Self-Defense Force (JASDF) has successfully completed yet another series of test firings of Raytheon's Patriot Air and Missile Defense System at McGregor Range, N.M. The Annual Service Practice included target engagement and firings of Patriot in stressing tactical mission scenarios.

"Raytheon is committed to supporting our partners in maintaining the operational readiness of their Patriot systems," said Ralph Acaba, vice president for Integrated Air and Missile Defense at Raytheon's Integrated Defense Systems business. "And the success of these annual exercises speaks to the dedicated teamwork of Japan's defense force, MHI (Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Ltd.) and the U.S. Army, working together to ensure that Japan's force and Patriot systems are performing optimally to protect the country from evolving threats."

JASDF's Annual Service Practice was held from Sept. 21 through Nov. 2, with approximately 380 JASDF personnel participating. This year's exercise included a VIP visit and viewing by Japan Vice Commander of the Air Defense Command.

Japan is one of 12 nations that have selected the combat-proven Patriot as a key component of their air and missile defense program.

Raytheon is the prime contractor for both domestic and international Patriot Air and Missile Defense Systems and system integrator for Patriot Advanced Capability-3 missiles. MHI is the prime contractor for Patriot in Japan and manufactures the Guidance Enhanced Missile and related ground equipment for Japan under a license agreement with Raytheon.
