Raytheon Missile Systems has been awarded a $13.8 million U.S. Navy contract modification for work on the Standard Missile-2 and Standard Missile-6 programs.

The exercised option on the previously awarded contract will cover engineering and technical services to ensure continuity in production, design integrity and total systems integration of the missile round and its components.

Work will be performed in Arizona and has an estimated completion date of September 2017.

Naval Sea Systems Command is the contracting activity.

SM-2 is a fleet-area air defense weapon that provides anti-air warfare and limited anti-surface warfare capability against modern advanced anti-ship missiles and aircraft out to 90 nautical miles, and to altitudes of 65,000 feet.

SM-6 provides over-the-horizon defensive and offensive capability by leveraging the legacy Standard Missile air frame and propulsion.

It is the only missile in the world that can perform both anti-air warfare and terminal ballistic missile defense from sea.
