Saab reports that it is offering a sensor package for India's s LCA-Tejas Mk1A fighter aircraft in partnership with Indian industry.

The package consists of Saab's Airborne Electronically Scanned Array, or AESA, fighter radar integrated with a compact electronic warfare suite.

The AESA radar, the company said, was developed by Saab with antenna technology based on the latest technologies using Gallium Nitride, or GaN, and Silicone Carbide substrates in combination with the latest generation of exciter/receiver and processor technology.

The EW suite consists of sensors and transmitters developed by Saab. The heart of the suite is an electronic warfare receiver which is connected to a front-end receiver and fin-tip antennas inside the aircraft and an external jammer pod.

"In our partnership, the transfer of technology will secure an indigenous Indian capability for series production, maintenance, repair and overhaul capability," said Anders Carp, head of Saab's Surveillance business area. "Testing and development of the fighter sensor package will have synergies with the systems developed for Gripen [fighters]."
