Dubai experienced extreme weather recently, receiving more than 250 mm of rain in less than 24 hours, causing widespread flooding in the desert city. This event submerged roads and vehicles and disrupted flight operations across the United Arab Emirates.

A new image from the Copernicus Sentinel-2 satellite, taken on 17 April, utilizes a false color composite to clearly depict the flooded areas in turquoise, contrasting with red patches that show vegetation.

The image can be viewed in full 10 m resolution, allowing detailed observation of the flood's impact.

Sentinel-2 satellites are vital for monitoring and managing such disasters, providing essential data that supports the accurate and timely assessment of flood extent and severity.
