Israel hands Egypt bodies of Sinai gunmen: military source
Jerusalem (AFP) Sept 22, 2012 - Israel has transferred to Egypt the bodies of three militants who killed an Israeli soldier in a cross-border raid, before being killed themselves, an Israeli military source said Saturday.

"Last night we handed over to Egyptian authorities the bodies of the three terrorists killed yesterday," the source told AFP, without elaborating.

The three heavily-armed men infiltrated into Israel from neighbouring Egypt's Sinai peninsula on Friday at a point on the 240-kilometre (150-mile) frontier where an Israeli border fence is still under construction.

A former advisor to Tunisian President Moncef Marzouki was handed a four-month suspended jail term for defaming the army and its commanders, he said on Saturday.

"We will launch an appeal as soon as possible against this charade," Ayoub Messaoudi told AFP.

He went on trial in August behind closed doors before a military court on charges of defaming Tunisia's army, the chief of staff, Rachid Ammar, and Defence Minister Abdelkarim Zbidi.

Rights group heavily questioned the chances of a fair trail as the army itself was judging the case. Messaoudi could have faced up to five years behind bars.

Messaoudi had accused Ammar and Zbidi in a television broadcast in July of "treason" for not having informed President Moncef Marzouki in advance of the extradition of former Libyan premier Baghdadi al-Mahmudi to Tripoli.

Prime Minister Hamadi Jebali ordered the transfer at the end of June, causing a political crisis within Tunisia's ruling coalition, led by Jebali's moderate Islamist Ennahda party.

Marzouki, who belongs to the centre-left Congress for the Republic, was furious with the decision, having always expressed doubts about the ability of the new Libyan regime to guarantee Moamer Kadhafi's last premier a fair trial.

Libyan army evicts militia in Tripoli
Tripoli (AFP) Sept 23, 2012 - Libya's armed forces announced on Sunday that they had dislodged a militia from a military complex on the highway leading to Tripoli International Airport.

Commander in chief Yussef al-Mangush said on his Facebook page that members of the militia were arrested and that their weapons were confiscated.

The sound of gunfire was heard in the area at 9 am (0700 GMT) and lasted less than a minute, an AFP journalist said.

Mangush made no mention of any casualties.

The move comes a day after the Libyan authorities announced the decision to dissolve all militias that do not come under state authority and set a 48-hour deadline for armed groups to evacuate strategic property in Tripoli.

Hundreds of former rebels have taken over state-owned military and civilian facilities as well as the properties of supporters and relatives of Moamer Kadhafi in the wake of his fall and death in last year's revolution.
