by Staff Writers
Rio De Janeiro (AFP) April 6, 2012

At least two people were killed late Friday in Brazil's southeastern state of Rio de Janeiro due to a heavy downpour, which triggered mudslides and interrupted traffic, media reported.

The newspaper Folha reported that one person had been found dead in the wreckage of his collapsed house in the community of Teresopolis.

Meanwhile, a teenage boy was killed by a mudslide.

Traffic on the highway linking Teresopolis with Rio de Janeiro was interrupted.

The previous rainy season left 33 people dead in Brazil while thousands were forced to leave their homes.
