U.S., Russian firms in distribution deal
by Staff Writers
Dallas (UPI) Aug 24, 2011

Boeing subsidiary Aviall, Inc. is to supply forecasting services, technology, training and aviation material for distribution in the Russian aviation market.

The distribution agreement was signed with Moscow's Aviation Service Company Aviation Equipment, a subsidiary of Concern of Aviation Equipment, a State Corporation Russian Technologies company.

Aviall said the agreement becomes effective in the fourth quarter of this year.

"We are very pleased and proud to announce this agreement with the services unit of Concern of Aviation Equipment to expand our services into Russia," said Dan Komnenovich, president and chief executive officer of Aviall.

"We believe this will enhance quality and efficiency for Russian aviation operators and we look forward to helping support customers in this important market."

The new agreement will give customers access to state-of-the-art information technology infrastructure, allowing them to link with Russian Technologies in a single IT system," Aviall said. The linkage will help airlines increase their aircraft utilization, reduce or avoid airplane-on-ground situations and reduce operational costs.

"Cooperation with one of the global aerospace leaders, in the creation of a distribution system and maintenance, repair and overhaul infrastructure will allow us to apply modern technologies and know-how in material management, production and component repair for various aircraft types," said Andrey Rybin, general director of CAE.

"We will leverage best management practices, including lean production methodology, which are successfully applied by Boeing."

Boeing and Russian Technologies helped facilitate the agreement. The companies have worked together on a variety of aviation-related projects since 2007 when Russian Technologies was formed to assist Russian manufacturers in developing and producing high-technology industrial products in domestic and international markets.

This agreement marks the latest step of Russian Technologies' long-term plan to offer world-class distribution, integrated maintenance, repair, overhaul services, materials management and local production of aviation parts and components.

Aviall Services, Inc. is a wholly owned subsidiary of the Boeing Co. It describes itself as a leading solutions provider of aftermarket supply-chain management services for the aerospace and defense industries.

Aviall Services has headquarters in Dallas.

The companies said the agreement was signed earlier this month at the Moscow Air Show.

Air New Zealand earnings plunge after disasters
Wellington (AFP) Aug 25, 2011 - Air New Zealand announced a 45 percent slump in annual earnings on Thursday as natural disasters in Christchurch and Japan weighed on the carrier's bottom line.

The airline said normalised earnings before tax in the year to June 30 were NZ$75 million ($62.2 million), while net profit after tax slipped 1.0 percent to NZ$81 million.

The airline said normalised earnings stripped out the impact of measures such as fuel hedging from the annual result.

Chairman John Palmer said the Christchurch earthquake in February and the Japanese quake and tsunami disaster a month later resulted in a significant drop in demand.

"These natural disasters and sustained high fuel prices dramatically altered what was shaping up to be a very positive full year result," he said.

"Nevertheless, this backdrop of adversity has again highlighted the resilience of Air New Zealand in the most challenging of times."

He said the airline recorded a net profit of NZ$112 million in the first half of the financial year but booked losses of NZ$37 million in the second half.

Palmer said the airline expected an improved performance in the current financial year "in the absence of further deterioration in global economic conditions and an escalation in fuel prices".

Air New Zealand shares were up 0.9 percent at NZ$1.12 in early afternoon trading.
