The Boxer Amphibious Ready Group and the Royal Canadian Navy completed their Task Group Exercise on November 6, finishing nearly a month of training.

The Task Group Exercise, also known as TGEX 2015, was a joint U.S.-Canada multi-warfare exercise designed to improve the performance of participating units in various types of combat operations, including amphibious warfare, air defense, anti-submarine warfare, surface warfare, and maritime interdiction. Training took place off the coast of Southern California.

Training in the region supported the initiative by the U.S. Navy's 3rd Fleet of responsibility to bolster combat readiness and response to crises in the area, while also protecting the collective maritime interests of both the United States, Canada, and their allies.

The U.S. Navy's 3rd Fleet oversees the Eastern Pacific and West Coast of North America, and is tasked with managing interagency and international relationships based in the region.

For TGEX 2015, the U.S. Navy committed amphibious assault ship USS Boxer, Expeditionary Strike Group 3,and Amphibious Squadron 1, and supporting vessels. The Royal Canadian Navy committed Halifax-class frigates HMCS Calgary, HMCS Vancouver, and Victoria-class submarine HMCS Chicoutimi.

TGEX 2015 is one of several regular military exercises the United States conducts with Canada, which also recently includes Pacific Partnership and Trident Fury.
