Lusaka (AFP) Nov 2, 2010
A Zambian court Tuesday bailed two Chinese managers who are charged with attempted murder after they shot 12 miners protesting over their working conditions.

Xiao Li Shan and Wu Jiu Hua were released after posting bail of 50 million kwacha (around 10,500 dollars) at a hearing in Choma, approximately 280 kilometers from the capital Lusaka.

"The offences slapped on the accused persons are serious but they are entitled to bail," said magistrate Willie Sinyangwe .

The pair had been arrested since October 18 after the shooting at the Chinese-owned Maamba Collum coal mine in southern Zambia.
